Suburban Money Shop
Part 1 Project (1986):
Suburban Money Shop:
The brief set by the tutors was to develop a concept design for a high-street money shop located on the outskirts of a major British city.
The site was identified between two family run shops on a high street in an out-lying suburb of Cardiff which imposed a number of restrictions on the design and which required a sensitive approach to the aesthetics of the design.
The response was to take inspiration from the historic roadside frontage which possessed a strong rhythm but a mix of styles reflecting the eclectic nature of the architecture which has evolved over many decades.
The design respects the rhythm and form of the street scene but offers a contrasting and modern architectural style to ensure that the building would stand out with its own identity offering a welcoming façade to the visitor.
