About Derrick Whittaker Architect

Since its inception the Ledbury based chartered architect practice, which combines a number of architectural disciplines including surveying, feasibility, design, planning and building regulations, has provided high quality consultancy to clients throughout the United Kingdom.

Offering expertise in all forms of construction including traditional, contemporary, oak and softwood timber framing

The practice has undertaken over 400 projects, many of which required planning permission and building regulations approval. Such projects include new build dwellings, school and religious buildings, changes of use and conversions as well as numerous extension and remodelling projects. The projects vary in size, complexity and style, from traditional to contemporary, reflecting the site context and the Clients’ brief in each case. Increasingly new design projects incorporate green and environmentally conscious technologies and components reflecting changing legislation and growing awareness of climate change.

Profile

Since being elected to the RIBA as a chartered Architect in 1992 I have gained a wealth of experience in a variety of project types from doctor’s surgeries and large retail and commercial developments to an International quality swimming pool.

I formed my practice in 2004 and have undertaken the planning and building regulations applications for a number of new build dwellings, as well as domestic extensions, in both traditional and modern styles for Clients located throughout England and Wales.

I have produced drawings for in excess of sixty new build dwellings, many formed using heavy oak frames, as well as designing and gaining planning permission for a substantial new school building for a local high school.

I am able to offer services from inception through to the production of construction details, alongside the building regulations process, including formulating a brief in association with the Client, preparing design proposals and undertaking the planning application including negotiating with the local planning authority.

Since its inception the practice, which combines a number of disciplines including surveying, feasibility, design, planning and building regulations, has provided high quality consultancy to many Clients’ within Herefordshire as well as from much further afield within the UK.

Much of the practices’ work has involved new build one off dwellings in both traditional style, especially incorporating oak and timber framing in association with T.J.Crump Oakwrights Ltd (www.oakwrights.co.uk), and contemporary style combining quality design with green and environmentally conscious technologies.
